Rules for the wireless network

The usage of the computer network at Uppsala University is intended to facilitate studying, research and normal working duties. Other types of usage can be permitted provided it does not affect the intended usage or cause harm to Uppsala University.

The following applies:

• All usage of user accounts and computer networks must follow Swedish laws and regulations.
• User accounts, passwords and codes are individual and must be used only by the intended individual.
• Computers, mobile devices and other equipment connected to Uppsala University’s computer network must have relevant protection such as anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall.
• Sunet’s ethical rules regulate other usage. Sunet judges unethical behaviour to be when someone
  • attempts to gain access to network resources that they do not have the right to,
  • attempts to conceal their user identity,
  • attempts to interfere or disrupt the intended usage of the network,
  • clearly wastes available resources (personnel, hardware or software),
  • attempts to disrupt or destroy computer-based information,
  • infringes on the privacy of others or
  • attempts to insult or offend others

    Access Cards

    To get into the buildings (outside office hours) and computer rooms (always locked), an access card is required, the so-called "Campus Card". Students participating in online courses and visitors to the university buildings do not need to register for campus cards.

    Instructions on how to receive your campus card will be sent to you via email. To pick up your campus card you need to bring a valid ID an be registered for a course. Newly registered students must register and activate your user-account with Uppsala University to receive the email with instructions.

    If you lose your campus card, cancel it as soon as possible. You can cancel your card by logging in to your user account. You can also contact student services to get assistance in blocking the card.

    Network and VPN

    For employees at Uppsala University who need to work remotely or have access to university resources during mission. To get access to the VPN, you need to be Employee or Other active Personnel, Maxi (level of IT charge).

    Students do not have the opportunity to use the service.

    PLEASE NOTE: Most of the University's IT systems – such as Zoom, Medarbetarportalen, – are accessible to use remotely without a VPN connection. However, some systems require a VPN connection for access outside the university premises. The most common systems are listed below. If you are not sure if you can access a digital service from home, try it first without using a VPN connection (to avoid overloading the VPN system).

    Systems that require VPN for working at home:

    • The eduPrint printing system
    • The Financial administration system Raindance
    • Infoglue (starting 11 May )
    • The system for publishing on digital screens (Diskus)
    • Administration of and access to certain cloud and storage systems (eg Argos, Polacksbacken's cloud service, etc.)
    • Primula client – system for Payroll and HR administration
    • GLIS
    • W3D3 (Document Registration)

    Trådlöst nätverk

    Användning av universitetets datornätverk syftar till att underlätta studier, forskning och utförande av ordinarie arbetsuppgifter. Annan användning kan vara tillåten under förutsättning att den inte inkräktar på ordinarie arbetsuppgifter eller kommer universitetets till skada.

    I övrigt gäller att

    • all användning av användarkonton och datornät ska följa Sveriges lagar och förordningar
    • användarkonton, lösenord och koder är personliga och får endast användas av innehavaren
    • datorer, mobila enheter och annan utrustning som ansluts till universitetets datornätverk ska ha relevant skydd såsom antivirus, antispyware och brandvägg
    • Sunets etiska regler reglerar övrig tillåten användning. Sunet fördömer som oetiskt när någon
      • försöker få tillgång till nätverksresurser utan att ha rätt till det
      • försöker dölja sin användaridentitet
      • försöker störa eller avbryta den avsedda användningen av nätverken
      • uppenbart slösar med tillgängliga resurser (personal, maskinvara eller programvara)
      • försöker skada eller förstöra den datorbaserade informationen
      • gör intrång i andras privatliv
      • försöker förolämpa eller förnedra andra.
