Sölvesborgs GoIF is a Swedishfootball club located in Sölvesborg in Blekinge.[1]

Sölvesborgs Gymnastik-och Idrottsförening were founded on 13 October

Since their foundation Sölvesborgs GoIF has participated mainly in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system. For 3 seasons over the period –69 SGIF played in Division 2 Södra Götaland which at that time was the second tier of Swedish football. The club currently plays in Division 2 Södra Götaland which is now the fourth tier of Swedish football.[2] They play their home matches at the Svarta Led in Sölvesborg.[3]

Sölvesborgs GoIF are affiliated to the Blekinge Fotbollförbund.[4] SGIF have two men's teams, the first team and FC Giffarna. The club alo runs an active youth section serving young people.

Sölvesborgs GIF är en fotbollsklubb som är en angelägenhet för alla i Sölvesborg. Tack vare en lång och rik historia finns en stolt tradition som bärs upp av många.
På Svarta Led hålls drömmarna vid liv. Alla barn och ungdomar ska känna glädje och få självförtroende. Vi har höga krav på ledarnas förmåga och kunskaper att utbilda våra spelare i fotboll och utveckla dem som individer. Föreningen strävar efter att så många pojkar och flickor som möjligt ska börja spela fotboll och att man ska kunna och vilja spela så länge som möjligt.
Föreningen strävar efter sportsliga framgångar för våra seniorlag. Framgången ska byggas genom en god talangutveckling och bra kamratskap. En majoritet av spelarna i seniorlagen ska vara fostrade i SGIF.


Svarta Led är vår gemensamma samlingsplats. Idrottsplatsen är välkomnande för människor i alla åldrar och där finns en positiv och stöttande anda. Ideella krafter med engagemang är f&o

Sölvesborg is, despite its small population, for historical reasons normally still referred to as a city. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10, inhabitants as cities.

History of the city

As the water from the Baltic Ice Lake withdrew, the land around present-day Sölvesborg became accessible to settlers from what today is Denmark. The first people to settle were farmers; remains of their presence have been found in the area dating back to the Stone Age, mostly in the area around Gammalstorp, Siretorp and Istaby. The hill in the east, marking the border towards Karlshamn called Ryssberget, was a direct creation of the glacial movements. On the western side of the hill, the different times of ice withdrawal are clearly noticeable. The old, now drained lake of Vesan was also a product of the ice age.
